Independent Non-Executive Directors for Cornwall Housing
About Cornwall Housing Ltd
Cornwall Housing Ltd (CHL) is a wholly owned subsidiary of Cornwall Council, responsible for managing over 10,200 council homes, 400 leasehold properties, and additional assets including garages, shops, and land. As an Arms’ Length Management Organisation (ALMO), we are committed to providing safe, high-quality, and affordable homes for communities across Cornwall.
Our organisation is undergoing a period of transformation to improve services, enhance governance, and ensure we meet the evolving needs of our tenants and stakeholders. With a renewed focus on delivering operational excellence and long-term sustainability, CHL is investing significantly in upgrading and maintaining housing stock, improving energy efficiency, and strengthening regulatory compliance.
As we continue to embed best practices and drive meaningful change, we are seeking two Independent Non-Executive Directors (NEDs) to join our Board in 2025. These individuals will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of social housing in Cornwall and ensuring our organisation remains accountable, forward-thinking, and resident-focused.
Join us in shaping the future of social housing in Cornwall.
The Opportunity
We are seeking to appoint two Independent Non-Executive Directors. As a NED, you will contribute to the strategic oversight of CHL, ensuring strong governance, financial resilience, and high standards of service delivery. You will work collaboratively with the Board and executive team to monitor progress, drive continuous improvement, and ensure CHL meets its statutory, legislative, and regulatory responsibilities.
Our new NED’s will sit on one of the two following committees: People and Culture Committee or Audit, Finance, and Risk Committee.
This is an exciting opportunity to apply your leadership expertise in a dynamic and high-impact sector, helping to guide CHL through a period of transformation while ensuring that we continue to deliver safe and secure homes for the people of Cornwall.
Who We Are Looking For
We are seeking candidates with strong strategic, governance, and leadership experience who can bring fresh perspectives and constructive challenge to our Board.
Ideal candidates will have:
- Governance and strategic oversight experience – Previous experience as a NED in the public, private, or voluntary sector is preferred but not essential.
- Knowledge of social housing, ALMOs, or related sectors – desirable but not essential.
- A strong understanding of regulatory and governance standards – with the ability to provide strategic oversight and constructive challenge.
- The ability to support transformation and change – particularly in an organisation undergoing operational and cultural development.
- A collaborative and inclusive approach – with strong influencing and stakeholder engagement skills.
Candidates should ideally be based in the South West, with a connection to Cornwall being beneficial. However, this is not a strict requirement for outstanding applicants.
We are committed to building a diverse and inclusive Board and actively encourage applications from individuals from all backgrounds. We particularly welcome applications from candidates who identify as Black, Asian, or from other minority ethnic backgrounds, as well as those with disabilities.
