We run online and in person Trustee Development courses for those who are new to being a Trustee or for more experienced board members who are seeking a refresh and update. You will leave the course equipped with the tools, knowledge and confidence needed to make an effective contribution to your Board.
Courses can be tailored for your own Board, please get in touch if you would be interested in hearing more about these sessions.
“A very useful and thought provoking refresher (for experienced Trustee’s like myself) delivered in an interactive way drawing on examples from participants to illuminate learning.”

The Role of the Trustee – An Introduction to Charity Governance Understanding and Strengthening Board Effectiveness
We were delighted to see such a strong turnout for this year’s Trustee Development Course, led by Pete Hawkins and hosted at the PKF Francis Clark offices in Plymouth.
This in-person programme provides a clear, practical and accessible introduction to charity governance, designed to build confidence, knowledge and effectiveness at board level.
We look forward to sharing details of upcoming training opportunities soon.
Voices from previous Trustee Training participants
“I can’t recommend this seminar highly enough, both for new Trustees and for those who have been in post a while. Public Leaders Appointments makes a dry subject engaging; the session is really practical and full of thought-provoking examples. Thoroughly recommend!”
“I wish this session was compulsory for all trustees and staff who work with the board – it’s invaluable. Public Leaders Appointments delivers what can often be dry content in an engaging, accessible way and most importantly, make it relevant. It was also great to connect with other trustees and explore some current challenges in a supportive, confidential environment.”

Public Leaders Appointments MD Anna Jay has designed and facilitates one of the modules at Oxford University’s Making a Difference Programme
This inspiring initiative is designed to give Oxford undergraduate and graduate students insight into purposeful career paths in the charity and social enterprise sectors.
The programme offers students access to a wide range of senior professionals working in or alongside the sector, and encourages them to consider how they might contribute – whether through their careers, as volunteers, or as future Trustees.
Voices from previous Trustee Training participants
“I found the Trustee training sessions to be a fantastic opportunity for expanding my knowledge and enhancing my skills. The course provided a comprehensive overview of both the legal and governance responsibilities associated with being a Trustee, as well as valuable insights of working effectively with Board members and staff. I now feel more confident in my role and equipped with practical tools and knowledge to make a meaningful contribution to the Board.“
“The sessions provided a sound baseline introduction for Trustees / Chairs. For me, a key recurring theme throughout the session was the relationship between the Trustees / Chairs and the Executive Team.“
